I replied to the other post about David Algar, the gist of it was that the person I asked thought he had gone from N.E.Scotland to 'somewhere like Malta'. I could ask around some more but it would arouse suspicion, I will do so however if there is no more reliable information.

Hanratty
by Duncan inuks channel 4 ran a very interesting documentary last night: hanratty - the whole truth for those of you who have never heard of james hanratty, heres a brief recap:.
in august 1961 there was an extremely notorious murder committed near the town of bedford in the uk.
in what came to be called the a6 murder, after the highway it took place on, an assailant attacked a man and his girlfriend in their car.

Yes I saw that too. I didn't want to believe that Hanratty was guilty either. His surviving family must feel dreadful beyond words.I also see the connection you are making. Don't we all believe what we want to believe unless or until we have to face the truth,(if that differs)

Smurfs & Cabbage Patch belivers
by JAVA ini'm reading a riveting memoir of a woman's immersion into fundamentalist faith, and her decision twenty years later to leave it behind.
it's called, this dark world, a memoir of salvation found and lost, by carolyn s. briggs (published by bloomsbury, ny, 2002).
i thought some might enjoy reading the following on pages 190, and 191:.

Will I get a shepherding call now, or just DF'd?
by meat pie ini saw a 'sister' today who had never had the opportunity to ask me why i stopped going to the meetings.
she had heard some gossip, but wanted to hear it from the horses mouth, if i didn't mind.
course i didn't mind, some of it related to someone bad-mouthing her family, but i told her that was just the straw that broke the camel's back.i said i had been wishing i wasn't at the meetings for about a year beforehand, and there were lots of reasons, hypocrisy for one.during the run-up to the last memorial some one here had pointed out john6:50-60. fortunately, i still carry a small nwt in my bag, so i showed her that bit, especially verse 54, regarding partaking and resurrection.tms trained, i asked her what that implied and she said that she thought i was getting at everyone partaking.

I said if you were reading that without having the Bible in one hand and the Watchtower in the other hand then that is just what it says.Of course I didn't expect her to agree with me. The upshot was that I said the org got a lot of things wrong IMO but I was not about to tell people they shouldn't be going to the KH, that was for them to decide. My husband(Not JW)had already been speaking to her on the subject and he was a good bit freer of speech, said I thought there would be a schism and that she would be AMAZED how much 'stuff' there was to find out on the internet! Her husband is a MS,Tuesday group tonight, wonder what will happen next?

David Algar used to be in this circuit, N.E.Scotland, but I can't remember in what capacity, though I do remember he seeming like a pleasant man.Anyway I saw a 'sister' today, and I asked her if she knew where he was now, she wanted to know why, I said I'd heard a rumour that something had happened to him, but it could be wrong. She said she thought he'd gone to Malta 'or somewhere like that.'

It'll Be A Dark And Stormy Trip To The Pub...
by Englishman intonight should be fun in weston super mare.. weston has the second highest tide in the world, and tonight is going to be the highest this year.
the tv has just announced that a 14 metre tide will peak at 20.45 gmt.
worse still, the wind is blowing from the west which will pile the sea water over the promenade into the road where i live.

Can I DA myself in a newspaper?
by meat pie inwhat do you think of this idea, has it been done?
i was thinking that if i did decide to da myself, one fun way to do it might be to place a public notice in a regional paper.
something not libelous(unfortunately), just saying that i no longer wanted to be know as one of jws because i could not reconcile the discrepancies/divide between jws organization and the bible.

Thanks very much all of you for your replies. My husband said he would work to pay for the notice(s). If I get DFd I'll definately do it. If I decide to DA I'll most likely do it. Elders keep on asking can they come and see me, see how I'm getting on. I always say. yes fine, just ring first, but none have been now for about 6 months. pity I have a very interesting file of UN stuff they might like to see.HA!After that the ad would be in.I f I do it I'll most certainly let you all know.

I'd word it better than that.It is an idea isn't it? I could also send a copy to the KH.I might well do that anyway if they DF me first. Comments please.

The Annual ``Don't Misbehave'' at Asemblies'' KM
by Room 215 ingreetings from the ``here we go again'' department.
while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!
'' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.

Englishman, that was so hilarious!
Amongst my many complaints to the elders as to why I wasn't going to meetings was the attitude in these articles when they say something like,' watch your kids and purses because not everyone there is a JW'I said 'you know as well as I do that there are JW paedophiles and theives'No sensible reply.
I haven't seen the latest KM. Scan anyone please?
Last year my xfriend's tenage son got so legless on the Saturday night he couldn't get to the convention till lunchtime and was still ill. A fine witness! Just normal really IMO. -
